We’ve got a special series of videos coming up this week, folks. One romantic evening in Boston, with snow on the ground outside and beer and pasta filling my stomach, I found myself shooting an old school hootenanny. A half dozen—more—crazy talented musicians gathered on Bishop Allen Dr. in a little living room filled with instruments and microphones.
Over the course of what must have been 5 or 6 hours, they took turns playing their songs, all serving as one another’s backup singers, instrumentalists, harmonizers. Some folks cooked in the kitchen. One guy was filming the whole thing on his iPhone.
Friendly People, Tamsin Wilson, Rhianna LaRocque, Megan Lui, and Pedestrian (bands, remixes of bands, half bands, bands plus drummers, and so on) all eventually ended up playing. I filmed all night and had to dump footage twice just to get everything. I hope that I can just convey a little bit of the atmosphere of the night.
On a side note, I’ll mention this was a strange piecing together process to present this to you. A lot of footage was lost after some terrible tech difficulties, and the footage that survives are the shorter shots, the b-takes, the etceteras. I ended up enjoying putting together the scraps to try and show you all the whole.
