I met Camden, a Boston-based band who wears their New Jersey roots proudly, on a cold night in a big cement basement. The four guys (and an unclear number of hangabouts coming in-and-out of the place) were casual and friendly. One of the band mates was out on a beer run. It seemed like one of those easy weekday nights where there’s not much pressing to do the next morning. Except with really exceptionally loud music.
I kinda laughed off their warning that it was gonna be loud and the ear plugs everyone was jamming in their ears. I mean, I’d been doing this long enough. I knew loud music. And how to record it.
Nope. These guys were fucking loud. Good and energetic and catchy and fucking loud. Their performance of “Let’s Go For a Ride,” was the first shoot that had the atmosphere of a show. Specifically a crusty, punk, basement show, but better dressed.
I’ll just end noting that these four guys throw out something of a rock star vibe, at least to me. But they’re four funny, sweet and genuine dudes, and I hope I conveyed how much fun they were all having in their basement: shredding guitars and chewing microphones. Enjoy!
