COUCHPOTATOES//LIVINGROOMSONGS PRESENTS: JENN ROMERO
(for slow connections turn off HD or watch on YouTube here)
When I got to singer/songwriter/pianist/composer Jenn Romero’s first-floor-of-an-old-two-story-house loft (located conveniently right by the Brown Line in Lakeview; you can hear a train whiz by mid-song if you perk your ears right) she was mid 40oz. and knee deep in boy trouble. We went to her kitchen and shared the rest of her tall bottle of cheep beer and I did my best to be the sounding board for all the great shortcomings of guys my age.
This was pretty easy cause I generally assume myself to be shortcoming-filled and hence know all about the shortcomings of guys my age.
After the drink and the rant, Jenn was ready to play. We went to her living room, where I found a great space with that just moved into after a college graduation feel— cardboard boxes and shoes marking the atmosphere.
Jenn whipped out her electric Yamaha and what came next, you’ll see for yourself, was an amazing mix of lyrics exemplifying the same insecurities and wounds from boys that I’d seen in the kitchen, and a flowing, beautiful, technically beautiful not lo-fi-style beautiful, piano melody. I want to thank Jenn for the conversation, the half-of-a-half of her 40oz. and the music.
