I was pretty surprised when Shawn from The Netherfriends agreed to reschedule our shoot.
It was my first shoot for the living room songs and I hadn’t quite gotten a routine down yet, so after trekking down to Logan Square I opened my backpack and saw that I had, in a shockingly dumb move, forgotten the camera battery. I had brought literally a mini-film set on my back and couldn’t even turn my camera on. 
So I went home kicking myself for amateur-houring the fuck out of the afternoon and praying the very talented Shawn wouldn’t catch on that I was in significantly-over-my-head. I either played it cool enough or Shawn was a remarkably good guy, and a week later I found myself trudging up the steps of his friend’s apartment (Shawn tours so regularly an actual apartment is impractical) to his attic recording space. 
As you’ll see, the attic was strange and beautiful and Shawn was gracious, talented and humble. This music-in-his-veins-show-playing-addict mixed/played a hell of a song in the closest thing he had to a living room: a half-empty jam space filled to the brim with musical toys.
